AN INTERNET OF TREES SNIFFS OUT FIRE
Episode 34
Imagine a forest with a built-in fire detection system. Sensors in the middle of nowhere can enable that thanks to technology from Dryad.
Dryad’s solution uses electronic noses to sniff out gasses emitted by fires way earlier than optical sensors could see them. The sensors send signals to firefighters via a solar-powered mesh network.
Dryad’s goal by 2030 is to install 120 million sensors able to protect 3.9 million hectares of forest from fires and prevent 1.7 billion tons of CO2 emission.
CEO Carsten Brinkschulte explains how it works.
CAN YOUR CAR SUPPLY THE ELECTRICAL GRID?
Episode 32
Instead of take, take, take from the electrical grid, what if your EV could give a little back—wirelessly?
That’s the idea behind a technology developed by Gulplug. Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology isn’t quite ready for prime time, but the need for it is growing fast. According to Gulplug’s analysis, 1 million EVs connected simultaneously to the grid would pull the equivalent of all the power generated by two nuclear plants.
Instead of just pulling power from the grid, EVs can be programmed to store energy and push it back. Doing that could lower distribution costs and carbon emissions.
CEO Henri Trintignac spells out the plan.
SMART WATER METERS SAVE WATER WITH DATA AND AI
Episode 31
Your next water meter could learn how you use water and make suggestions for how to save this valuable resource. It could also alert you that the neighbor is washing her car using your spigot!
The need to conserve water is real, as residents of the American southwest can attest. Even the investment community is taking note of the business risks of water shortages.
Experts predict that soon the average per person daily water use will need to decline by at least half to keep things flowing.
Enter Creative EC, with insights into making water metering smarter using data and AI as part of its Waterfall solution.
Hear Creative EC’s CTO Steve McCorry tell more.
